Do you remember when Spaceship Earth had a Magic Wand?

In September 1999 to celebrate the new century a Mickey Mouse hand holding a Magic Wand was installed beside Spaceship Earth proclaiming the year 2000.

In May 2001 the "2000" on the Wand was replace by "Epcot".

The Wand remained with Spaceship Earth until 2007 when it was taken down as part of the fourth renovation of the attraction. When it reopened in 2008 the narration was performed by Dame Judy Dench. You can still hear Dame Judy on the ride today.

Love this! I do remember when Spaceship Earth had the Magic Wand and I didn't recall exactly when they changed it. Fabulous flashback!!! Incidentally, as a child, I used to call it "Apricot" instead of Epcot, LOL.

ReplyDeleteI never minded the Magic Wand at EPCOT.... now the PINK Cake-Castle at MK is a different story.....
DeleteI had to look at the pink cake-castle every day at work during college program. But since I also got to see parades and fireworks, I won't complain. It was creative, if nothing else.

ReplyDeleteI was glad to see the wand disappear :) It was fine to celebrate 2000, but didn't like the big Epcot signage.
