A Walk Around The World With Ridge -- Self Service.

A new feature available in the long line of WDW conveniences (or inconveniences) is the self service ordering terminals at Pecos Bill's Tall Tale Inn & Cafe. I thought they were wonderful. I am someone who seems to follow directions well and will read instructions before turning a screw or pushing a button so I found the screens simple and concise.

Now shame on me for not taking a picture of the actual queue but I did snap a couple of the order screens.

The welcome screen is straight forward, Touch Here to Begin. Simple enough.

The next screen asked if you were on a Dining Plan or not. Since I was not I am not sure how the screens differentiated from the ones I was shown. My cousin-in-law, Windy, used the kiosk with little to no difficulty. So I will assume it was simple as well.

The selections are simple and easy to read, on the left are the entree choices. On the right are other options which go to other menus. Your running total is also shown.

Once your selection is made and you are happy with the choices, press the pay now button under the order review and swipe your credit card for payment. Wait just a moment and a receipt is printed and you continue to the counter to receive your order the same as always.

I loved this new addition; I love tech and getting to do things for myself. Not that I want a Cast Member job to be taken away but after the episode I had ordering a simple kids meal with mac & cheese grapes and applesauce at Pinocchio's Village Haus with a Cast Member who had a terrible time with either English or "my English". I realize I am from the South but I don't think it's all that noticeable seeing as how I used to be a phone rep at my company. I speak clearly and concisely. Long story shorter I canceled that order and moved to another Cast Member and surprise got my order on the first try.

Regardless, I ate at Pecos Bill’s 4 times on our last trip and used the self service kiosk each time. The lines were shorter and seemed like less congestion than the lines with the Cast Members. I personally didn't witness anyone having a hard time with these ordering systems. So I can say I would like to see more of these in certain high traffic areas around WDW.

Lastly I leave you with a couple of my favorites, Taco Salad, Chicken Wrap and Chili Cheese Fries. Nom Nom Nom.

  2. I tried this system too. I believe when you got the chicken wrap. I had ordered for me, Mom, and Audrey and found it to be very simple. The self-serve kiosk area did seem to move faster.
